Dilettante: [noun]: 1. A dabbler in an art or a field of knowledge. 2. A lover of the fine arts; a connoisseur. [adj.]: Superficial; amateurish.
G’day. I’m an adjective-addled and dream-dependent idealist, recovering magical-realist addict (prognosis not great I’m afraid), pursuer of creative outlets wherever they may be hiding, wanderlust admirer & sufferer, amateur bon vivant, self-confessed (and oft-accused) dilettante, itinerant genius-seeker, and compulsive book-buyer – and arranger of said purchases by the colour of their spine so that my bookshelf appears like a rainbow, at whose end I hope there sits a pot of gold hidden within the next read.
I can’t promise I’ll do a full review for every book I read, but I shall post some comments on each.
Please join in the fun and leave a comment.
John
PS: I used to give a rating out of five, but now I just let the words speak for themselves.
Can you please PLEASE post a picture of your bookshelf!!!
Ha ha – will do! I might have to select a portion of the rainbow to display at any one time and rotate through the colour-range… watch this space 🙂
Hello John
Looking forward to seeing what you think of Slaughterhouse Five:)

Hi Lisa – Really enjoying it so far!
Will let you know how the experience turns out…
Cheers,
jb 🙂
Hi John
I want to ask a favour…
Could you please change your settings so that the whole post can be read from RSS, without having to open up the blog?
I think sometimes I’m missing posts I’d really like to read because when there’s a lot in my inbox, I just scan things quickly.
Please?
Lisa
Done… I think! … If it’s the setting: ‘show full post in feed’ vs ‘show summary’ – then it’s changed!
Yes, fantastic, the whole post shows up now – fantastic! Thanks!
Lisa
I just discovered this blog and you’ve done such a good job! Bookmarking!
Welcome Gwen! Glad you like it. Thanks. John
Just discovered this through Whispering Gums. I’m seriously thinking of reordering my books by spine colour. Did it take you a long time? How long have you been doing this? The SWF posts arebmaking me very homesick so I shall not comment. Good to meet you, cat
Hi, Cat. Welcome. The difficulty is in adding new books to the rainbow! I’ve been doing it for a while; not sure how long. Unfortunately I have a lot of books in storage, so I’ve only got part of the rainbow visible!
What a great blog. Thank you very much and keep up the good work.
Thanks John, and welcome. Cheers, John.
Hi John
I’d like to introduce you to my blog, BOOKS NOW! (www.dinaross.com.au) which I’ve started to “join the literary conversation”. I hope you enjoy it and I also present a monthly books podcast, Pageturners, on 3mbs FM, which can be found on their website, http://www.3mbs.org.au. My blogging is still in its infancy but I’m enjoying reaching out and starting to build a community. I hope you’ll be part of it, as I have also become part of yours.
Welcome, Dina. The more the merrier! I’ll have a listen to your radio show. What day/time of the month is it on? John.
I really like the way you discribe yourself! Some of it I could have said in my About, too ;-). Yours is a great blog and I just added it to my litblog list on Edith’s Miscellany.
Hopefully I’ll often get a chance to read your musings from now on!
Thanks, Edith and welcome. I’ll be sure to stop by your blog. Cheers, John.
